[The Talk]

Lord, May we sit down over a cup of coffee? I need to talk with you. I donít understand why it takes you so long to answer my prayers.

Havenít I always supplied your needs?

Well, yes, Lord, but why do you wait until the last minute before you send the answer?

Donít I always answer in time?

When you wait so long, I worry that you wonít answer.

Consider the birds of the air. They do not toil but donít I provide for them? Mt.6: 26

Lord, why donít you give the things I need ahead of time so I know that you are going to answer?

I give things when you need them. You know that I will answer.

It would reassure me if I had the things before I need them.
Getting Dressed Takes Patience
By Lynda Schab

My patience, as well as my authority, was being tested. My two-year-old son stood three feet away from me, a grin plastered on his jelly-stained face. In his hand was a fragile porcelain angel, part of my growing collection. It didnít matter that it wasnít the most expensive angel I owned; the fact was, he wasnít supposed to touch it - and he knew it.

I stood there, debating what to do. As I imagined having to sweep up shards of porcelain, I knew I couldnít wait too long. But I had a feeling that if I went with my first instinct - which was to shout, "No!" at the top of my lungs, lunge toward my son, and grab the angel - it would probably end up in pieces.

Trust not in things but in the one who provides them.

Lord, will I ever learn?

You are perfect.

Look at all the times that Iíve failed you.

I see only a lamb without blemish.

pa tience (pay shens) n. A calm endurance of hardship or annoyance or inconvenience or delay etc.

"Well, that makes sense. Of course, patience would be a noun. It certainly couldnít be a verb because a verb is an action and we know that patience isnít an action! It is elusive. How do we acquire this elusive trait-patience?"

Proverbs 19:11 A manís wisdom gives him patience.

"That narrows it down a bit. So, the question now is, how does a man obtain wisdom?"

I Kings 4:29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.

"OK. So, the answer is God gives wisdom."

Col. 2:2-3 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

"So, all of the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ? Then, I have another question. Does God give wisdom only to certain people?"

Romans 8:31-32 What then shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all- how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

"God wants all of us to have wisdom? How do we get it?"

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault and it will be given to him.

"So, God gave Solomon wisdom and He will give us wisdom when we ask? A manís wisdom gives him patience? HmmÖ I donít know Ö that seems too easy."

Proverbs 28:26 He who trusts himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe.
