Hearing God SpeakPrayer
By Toni Smothers

How important is your prayer life? Seems like a no-brainer, right? "Oh, very important," you might answer automatically. But think about that surface reaction – then go deeper.

In Matthew 21:22, it says, "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." And, again, in Mark 11:24, "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." These verses tell us that all we have to do is believe that God is listening and that He will grant us whatever we ask for in our prayers. Could it possibly be that simple?

The Single Moment of Truth

We always met on the practice field behind the junior high school during lunch hour. Never less than three, usually there was about ten of us, but sometimes there was as many as twenty or thirty. Hearing God SpeakQuestion:

I find it really hard not to put school in front of God, because I am a good all-rounder and get mostly A grades. What should I do to shift my focus?

What an appropriate question to use in this issue. The editor’s article is all about prayer in our lives and the featured article is about temptation and obedience. If you would like to accept God’s free offer of salvation, pray this simple prayer and by faith invite Him to fill you with His Spirit:

Dear Father, I need you. I confess that I have sinned against you by living my life as if I actually knew what I was doing. I have made many bad decisions and done many things I am ashamed of. I thank you for forgiving my sins through the blood of your precious son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for me. I now invite Jesus to take His rightful place in my heart as ruler of my life. Fill me with the Holy Spirit. I believe that you love me just as I am and I ask you to teach me how to love you back. Create in me a clean heart as you show me how to live each day for You.
