Dear Jesus,

I canít wait to see you face to face so that I can tell you how grateful I am for all you have done for me. I am afraid I wonít be able to speak or even to stand upright when I see you, so I wanted to send this letter on ahead so that you will be able to at least read of my gratitude.

I realize that you already know my heart and the depths of my thanksgiving, but some things are worth saying again and again. I want to say Ė I have to say Ė "Thank You."

As you know, I was in prison for over forty years, living in the darkness of solitary confinement and being fed just enough to stay alive. Prison and hopelessness became a way of life for me. My jailer kept insisting there was no way to escape death row. I believed him for all those years. I was living to die.

One day a man came to tell me about you. He told me you know my name. He told me that you know my family and all about me, even about my childhood. He told me that even though you know every crime I have ever committed, you still love me. Just hearing that someone on the outside loves me, was almost too much for me to take in. But the man told me more.

He told me you love me so much you are willing to take my place! He told me you love me so much that, no matter what Iíve done in the past or even what I will do in the future, you are willing to serve my time and to take my place on death row.

At first his news was hard to believe, especially since I had never met you before. But the man said he had come to bring even more good news.

He told me that no matter if I accepted your offer or not, YOU ALREADY HAVE TAKEN MY PLACE! He told me that your name is Jesus and that you came to this earth in order to serve your entire life on death row, just to die for me. You lived to die for me.

I must tell you, I fell to my knees and began to kiss the feet of the man who brought me your good news. But the man told me that he is your unnamed messenger and that what I need to do is accept your gift and know YOU as my savior.

I donít know why you love me and I donít know why you took my place, but because of You I am now free and living in the light. I am so glad to be living for You and for the day when I can fall at Your feet with unspeakable thanksgiving.

Forever Yours,

Grateful Heart

"All have sinned and fall
short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23

"If we claim to be without sin, we deceive
ourselves and the truth is not in us." - 1 John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave
his one and only Son, that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness." - 1 John 1:9

"For we know that our old self was crucified
with him so that the body of sin might be
done away with, that we should no longer
be slaves to sin - because anyone who has
died has been freed from sin." Romans 6:6,7
You can Receive Christ as Your personal savior right now through faith and prayer.

God knows your heart, and isn't concerned so much with the wording necessarily as He is the attitude of your heart. The following is a suggested prayer:

"Lord Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner and that I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be."

Does this prayer express what is in your heart? If so, pray this prayer as your own, and Christ will come into your heart as He promised.

What Now?

"...Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus..." (Romans 10:9) Good news is meant to be shared!
