VOICE OVER: The following conversation occurred earlier this year between a JohnStar Advisor and a subscriber.
ADVISOR: JohnStar emergency.
SUBSCRIBER: (Frantic tone) Yes, JohnStar? I’ve come across a nonbeliever who is asking me how to find out more about God, and I don’t know what to say!
ADVISOR: Ma’am, just try and calm down. Do you have your Bible with you?
SUBSCRIBER: Um…(Sound of shuffling items in purse) Yes, here it is.
ADVISOR: OK. Now, what I want you to do is open your Bible and turn to John chapter 1. You got it?
(Sound of pages turning.)
SUBSCRIBER: Yes – yes I’ve found it.
ADVISOR: Now read chapter 1, verses 1-3, and verse 14.
SUBSCRIBER: (Somewhat muffled) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
SUBSCRIBER: JohnStar, she says she thinks there are many paths to heaven. (Whining, exasperated tone) What do I do now?
ADVISOR: (Soothing tone) Remain calm. Turn to John 14:6 and read what it says.
SUBSCRIBER: (Somewhat muffled) Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
ADVISOR: Is everything all right, ma’am?
SUBSCRIBER: Well, now she says she followed all the church rules as a child, and she thinks she’ll still make it to heaven.
ADVISOR: You need to immediately intervene, ma’am. Please read John 3:5, 6.
SUBSCRIBER: (Somewhat muffled again) Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
SUBSCRIBER: She still doesn’t understand, JohnStar.
ADVISOR: It’s OK. Read John 3:16.
SUBSCRIBER: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
SUBSCRIBER: Wow! She says she never heard about God this way before. She wants to talk some more with me about God. Thank you, JohnStar.
ADVISOR: You’re welcome, ma’am. (Voice fading.) That’s why I’m here…
VOICE OVER: JohnStar. Always on, always ready to give an answer for those who call, for the hope that is in you.
