A New Yearís Clean Slate
By Wayne Nelson

Ah, January Ė the first month of a brand new year. It is a month of new beginnings, new resolutions and new starts. This is the time of the year when the slate of last year, with all its successes, disappointments, missed opportunities and other assorted categories, is literally wiped clean and we get a chance to start another year with an unsullied slate.

Wouldnít it be nice if our lives could reflect the clean slate of a New Year? If, somehow, we could have our slate wiped clean and be given a brand new slate upon which to write our new life?

Well, thatís exactly what happens when we accept Jesus as our Savior. As Paul recorded in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (KJV)

The New Yearís Baby
By DeAnna Brooks

Maybe it's because I'm a new grandmother! Well, Noni, actually, for two months now. And every time I hold my granddaughter, look at her, a sense of "new-ness" is birthed in me. You probably know exactly what I'm talking about, because it comes upon me whenever a tiny baby crosses my path. Most likely it does the same to you. Why is that?

Disappointments, that moments ago seemed so overwhelming, no longer cast their gloom on my day. Worries, such recently unshakable companions, are strangers now as I gaze into this face.

MomsOur Abilities Carry the Need for Accountability!
By Shirley Sue Shields

The greatest ability God gave to man was the power of choice, which can easily become a liability (danger) if we arenít careful in our choices. I have always been fairly independent, a self starter, and believed that I could do almost anything that I set my mind to. I am forever grateful that the Lord called me as a young child for many reasons. Iím also well aware that any ability that I may have, comes from my Creator and He holds me accountable for what I do with it.

Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (KJV) That scripture became my hope and prayer at an early age, since many didnít hold too high a view of my abilities. Letís just say I was different according to their views. Thatís why I said Iím grateful the Lord called me early and gave me a hunger for His Word, it was a life line to me since my youth, and continues to be every day. Yes, I failed many times but the Lord never let go of my hand.
