The Genesis of the Computer Age
By Patricia Ouellette

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." (Genesis 1:1 NIV)

This is the first line in the bible. It also marks the beginning of our world and mankind. It took God six days to create this marvelous planet we live on. It has taken us centuries to advance to what we are today.

No matter where we go, there is always something that is powered, manufactured, operated or used via a computer. Computers are in our cars, washing machines and televisions. They are the backbones of our banks, telephones and schools. We cannot go a day in our lives without using a computer of some kind.

The Internet Saved Me Time and Money
By Lana Fletcher

"Lana, you need to get hooked up to the Internet," a friend informed me. "I am having so much fun spending hours researching all kinds of topics."

I don't remember what I said out loud, but my attitude was whiny. Why would I want something that takes up more hours of my time? And I must be dull, because I couldn't think of anything to research.

Later, another friend said, "I am having so much fun going to garage sales and buying things to auction off on eBay.

Step-By-Step Tutorial: Windows Basics For The First Time User
Part 2b: Maintaining Your Computer – Disk Clean-up
By Patricia Ouellette

Last month we learned about Disk Defragmenting. Now we are taking our maintenance one step further by looking at Disk Clean Up – which is just as important as Disk Defragmentations.

Disk Clean Up will clean out what are commonly called "dead files". These are files that remain in different areas of your computer that, for various reasons, it will not need again. Lets face it, it would be a waste of time to maintain our computers if we kept all the garbage in it. How good would our spiritual lives be if we did not get rid of our excess baggage by giving and receiving forgiveness? Or would our homes remain clean and tidy if we did not take out the garbage everyday?

We also need to take out the garbage in our computers if we want to keep them clean and healthy. Emptying out folders with dead files does this, and Windows makes the task easy by having the pertinent folders listed in the Disk Clean Up function.

Tip of the Month

There is an old saying that goes, "Time flies when you’re having fun." It should be changed to "Time flies when you’re surfing the net." We all seem to lose track of time when we are surfing the net or using our computers. It is very important for your eyes and body that you have regular breaks from the computer. Everyone should have a ten-minute break after each hour. Use the time to get a drink, food, hang out the laundry or better yet, to tell your family you love them. Set an alarm clock if you have too. Just be sure that you take that break. It will prevent eyestrain; tendonitis; Repetitive Straining Injury to arms, hands and neck; also back pain. Your eyes and body will thank you.
