Speaking of Love

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 22:37-39 KJV)
Terri scrambled toward an unfamiliar podium, searching desperately for her opening speech within a handful of carefully scribbled notes. The couples who gathered for tonight’s Valentine dinner in the crowded church fellowship-hall were busy talking among themselves. Most of the crowd was oblivious to the frantic state of their guest speaker.

God’s Love-Surprise

I shall never forget that cold, winter evening, when God made himself known to me. It was unexpected, and shocked me to the very core.
After putting my three small children to bed, I settled back in the Lazy Boy and reached for Saint Augustine’s Confessions. As I flipped through the pages, a heading caught my eye – "Looking for God in the Fields of Memory."
Intrigued, I read his analytical search for God, and enjoyed his thought-provoking questions. One particular question intrigued me: How is it that after finding God we recognize him, when we never knew him beforehand?

Finding Greater Love

God has often surprised me with where He has revealed Himself and the truth from His word. One particular sultry, hot, Mississippi summer’s eve at the Rock House Inner City Ministry became one of those out-of-the-normal-realm-of-my-life experiences I have learned to appreciate.
An old office building had received a facelift to accommodate the Rock House Ministry. New carpeting and paint had been added to cover up cracks and other structural problems, but nothing could hide the odor of the life that had been there before.
In the past, through obedience to God, I had only gone through the motions of serving people who came into Rock House. This night; however, would change me.
